Welcome to the Outdoorbloggers. You're so lucky living where you are. I'm still down in Oxfordshire. My LEJOG this year takes me past not far from Todmorden (Hebden Bridge actually). You're welcome to join me for a day or more!

Hi Mike

1kg eh? Well done! I've gone to step on the scales about 30 times since Thursday but am determined to hold out a teeny bit longer if I can.

I think you're right about the walking thing by the way. I also read somewhere that weightloss is 80% eating right and 20% exercise which, if true, means that as long as the body is moving somehow it's going to make a difference if you're also watching the food intake. I hope so anyway.

I've weighed myself twice this year already - in two days. Must stop this before it becomes obsessive although I seem to have lost nearly 1kg overnight (counts all limbs to check that one hasn't fallen off somehow...) Clearly, there's something about these electronic scales that I'm failing to understand.
On the upside - I'm lead to believe (from somewhere or other) that it doesnt really matter how long you take over a walk, you still use up the same number of calories. If this is true, then you can happily mess around, take photos, or whatever. I think that some of the enjoyment and benefit of this walking stuff is the ability to explore things and, generally have a poke around, and do things such as sitting and watching the view. Otherwise , it just gets to be a chore.
Thats what I think anyway.
